Strawberry Banana Purée

Naturally Sweet Topper for Pancakes + Yogurt

👩🏾‍🍳 From Our Table:

This simple fruit purée was suggested by Chef Warren, who prepares wholesome meals for her own infant son. She offered it as a naturally sweet, healthier alternative to syrup for topping pancakes — and it’s been a beautiful way to add flavor, nutrients, and color to our little one’s plate ever since. We love pairing it with banana oat pancakes for a no-added sugar breakfast that still feels like a treat.

🥄 Yields: approx. ¼ cup (1–2 baby servings)
🌡 Storage: Refrigerate up to 2 days or freeze in small portions for up to 1 month.

🧂 Ingredients

  • ½ ripe banana
  • 2–3 fresh strawberries (remove green tops)
  • Optional: small squeeze of fresh lemon juice (to brighten flavor and preserve color)

⚙️ Instructions

  1. Prep fruit. Rinse strawberries and remove the green tops. Peel the banana.
  2. Blend. Add both to a blender or mini food processor. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add lemon juice (optional). A small squeeze can help keep the color bright and add freshness.
  4. Serve or store. Use right away or store in fridge up to 2 days. Freeze leftovers in small portions for up to 1 month.

🍓 Other Baby-Friendly Combos

  • Banana Blueberry: ½ banana + ¼ cup fresh or thawed blueberries
  • Plain Strawberry: 3–4 ripe strawberries
  • Plain Blueberry: ¼ cup fresh or thawed blueberries
  • Strawberry Blueberry: 2 strawberries + 2 tbsp blueberries

Add a small squeeze of lemon juice to any combo if desired.

📝 Mommy Note

  • No added sugar — all sweetness comes from the fruit.
  • Lemon juice helps prevent browning and adds a touch of brightness. Only a tiny squeeze is needed (⅛ tsp or less).
  • No need to buy pre-made purées — these combos take less than 5 minutes and can be made in batches.
  • For babies under 8 months, steam blueberries first or strain purée for a smoother texture.
  • Spoon over pancakes, mix into plain yogurt, or serve on its own.
  • Perfect for introducing variety without added sweeteners.
  • Freeze in silicone trays or baby-safe containers and store in a freezer-safe bag or container for easy grab-and-go meals — good for up to 1 month.
